Kelantan's main beach, with rows of food stalls, kite-flying and sunset families on the sand. A relaxed local scene rather than a resort vibe; try nasi kerabu and ikan bakar.

Kelantan's answer to an island trip is this little river-delta island in the Tumpat estuary, where village boats turn into floating food stalls on weekend mornings. Hop on a boat from Kuala Besar, eat kuih and nasi straight off the sampan, then wander the quiet kampung. Very local, very Kelantan, and completely different from the usual beach islands.

Kelantan's best-known waterfall, set up by the council with pools, platforms and a water slide. It's free and very popular with local families at weekends.
A cheery butter-yellow palace built in 1939 as a royal residence and wedding venue, now opened up as Kelantan's royal museum. Inside you'll find the family's furniture, crystal, regalia and photographs kept much as they were. Small and easy, it pairs nicely with the old palaces and Pasar Siti Khadijah a short walk away.
