Pahang's royal seat is a slow, stately riverside town where blue-and-white Masjid Abu Bakar, the Royal Mausoleum and the 1929 colonial-era museum building line the Pahang River. Stroll past 1950s shophouses, the royal polo grounds and the Pulau Keladi complex where Tun Abdul Razak was born. It's a proper step back in time, and only about 45 minutes from Kuantan.
